Highland Challenger League ceremonial check presentation

October 7, 2016 (Evansville, IN) - Mattingly Charities will participate in a special Highland Challenger League ceremonial check presentation from Don and Lori Mattingly, Sunday, October 9, 2016.

Location:  Highland Baseball Field / W Camp Ground Road, Evansville 


12:30pm - Don and Lori Mattingly arrive

12:55pm - Opening remarks:  Matt Pokorney (President, Highland Challenger League)

1:00pm - Mattingly Charities check presentation with Don, Lori, Pete Paradossi (Mattingly Charities), Amy Romain (United Companies), Mike Small (The William E. Schmidt Family Foundation)

1:15pm - Don and Lori throw out first pitch.  Available for media interviews afterward

1:20pm - Challenger League game begins


"When I heard the passion in my wife's voice when she was telling me about their Challenger program and their needs, I knew it was something we wanted to get involved in," said Don Mattingly. "It's an amazing program. We wanted to help." 

On December 3, 2015, Mattingly Charities hosted An Intimate Evening with Friends presented by United Companies, a charity fundraising event at the USI Theatre. 

The evening's entertainment included an appearances by LA Angels great, Albert Pujols, and country music icon, Toby Keith.  In addition, Don and Lori Mattingly presented Highland Baseball Club Challenger Division with a $25,000 donation to assist the League in their efforts to provide an artificial turf infield for the Challenger players.

Mattingly Charities, thanks to The William E. Schmidt Family Foundation, will be donating an additional $25,000 to assist the Challenger League with their efforts to build a first class rest and cooling shelter for the Challenger players.

Our Mission

Mattingly Charities has been created to serve underprivileged youth by supporting programs which promote baseball and softball participation in conjunction with other developmentally related activities. Mattingly Charities will provide funding and services and equipment for baseball, softball, and ultimately other sports, and related youth development activities, for the benefit of underprivileged youth, youth leagues, and social welfare and related organizations. 100% of the efforts of the organization will be focused on these activities.

Born and raised in Evansville, Indiana, Don Mattingly played his entire 14-year Major League career from 1982-95 with the New York Yankees. Currently, Don is the manager of the Miami Marlins.
