Highland Challenger League Named League of the Year

Friday, August 19, 2016

Mattingly Charities is proud to support the Highland Challenger League.  The league is being honored at the Little League World Series as League of the Year! Here's the feature from the 2016 Little League World Series Program.

During our event on December 3, 2015, Don and Lori presented president Matt Pokorney with a check for $25,000 that went to completing their all-turf field.

What is the Highland Challenger League?  Let Matt Pokorney tell you:

Challenger league is a division of Little League baseball. We decided 4 years ago that we were not doing enough to share our ball park with our community and we landed on the idea to being Challenger Baseball to Evansville. Little League advised me that most leagues in the country held about 30 kids and that would be a good number to shoot at to maintain.  Our first year we had 55 kids come out and over 100 volunteers. Now we have over 135 kids in our spring and fall ball programs.  We use our local community high school programs, both colleges, churches, and business, as well as have had our local police officers join us as buddies. Last year we had over 400 different volunteers help assist on the field of play.
Challenger is 100% free to play. We rely on donations, grants, sponsors and fundraising to make it all what it is today.
Projects we have completed to get the league where is is today:
New ADA restrooms
Concreete paths
Black top parking
Hard surface seating area
ADA dugouts
And now the new turf field surface
Future projects include:
Covered Cooling center
More hard surface parking
More turf field to grow the league bigger
If youre child would like to play, here's how to sign up.
