We partner with a number of Evansville-based organizations, whose mission aligns with ours, to award grant funds towards programs and projects helping underserved youth in the areas of education, social development, and athletics. Mission First representatives at our 2024 Find A Way event.

the sanctuary on the hill by mission first

Mission First's “The Sanctuary on the Hill” was the recipient of the 2024 “Fund-a-Need” during our event featuring Trace Adkins on November 21st. Together we raised $30,000 to support 12 weekends for veterans and their families, starting in January 2025.

Transitional sanctuaries like “The Sanctuary on the Hill” are essential for veterans as they help ease the challenging transition from military service to civilian life.

 
 

the united methodist youth home

Mattingly Charities awarded The United Methodist Youth Home with a grant to support the Day Education Program, a self-paced program to assist youth in the community who have dropped out of school or who are struggling with school attendance or academic achievement. The ultimate goal of this program is for the youth to obtain their high school equivalency.

For over 40 years, UMYH has provided a Residential Treatment Program for youth ages 10 - 21. They currently operate two licensed group homes, with an emphasis on developing pro-social behaviors, emotion regulation, personal responsibility, educational achievement, and independent living skills.

The mission of the United Methodist Youth Home is "helping at-risk youth become responsible and productive members of the community." They do this through their programs: Residential Treatment, Day Education, Truancy Intervention, Independent Living Skills, and Aftercare.

ywca Evansville

Mattingly Charities was thrilled to issue a matching grant to the YWCA Evansville to engage the community in an effort to replace their outdoor play space which had become worn and dilapidated over years of use. Many other generous donors supported the project to make YWCA Evansville’s dream a reality for the children served in their residential and after-school programs.

The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The YWCA has been serving the Evansville area since 1911 and, from its inception, has provided housing and services for women and girls. Current programs include the YES! recovery residence, Live Y’ers after-school and mentoring program for girls, a domestic violence shelter, and emergency housing for homeless women and children. The Evansville YWCA is part of an international movement serving over 2 million in the United States and 25 million worldwide.

University of Evansville Acebuddies

Mattingly Charities has supported the University of Evansville’s AceBuddies program with both an equipment grant in 2021 and a sponsorship for the AceBuddies Zoo Day 2022.

AceBuddies is a free exercise program for individuals with special needs, run by licensed and student physical therapists at the University of Evansville. They strive to improve the participant's self-efficacy and confidence through exercise with a trusted Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) student under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

Healing Reins of KY

In 2021 Mattingly Charities awarded a grant to Healing Reins of Kentucky in support of their Equine Assisted Services including Therapeutic Riding, Therapeutic Horsemanship, non-mounted equine activities to promote emotional growth and social skill development.

Healing Reins serves individuals ages four and up that have physical, social, emotional, or cognitive needs with equine-assisted activities and therapies. Their mission is to assist individuals in reaching their full potential through interaction with horses.

COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund Of The Greater Evansville Region

In response to the current COVID-19 crisis, Mattingly Charities joined forces with several other community funders in 2020 to establish the COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund of the Greater Evansville Region.

This response is designed to serve the community through the relief, recovery, and restoration phases typical of large-scale crises to catalyze hope in a time that perpetuates hopelessness and isolation.

All partners involved agree that the current priority is to ensure responsiveness in the human services sector so that individuals and families in need are supported during this pandemic, especially vulnerable and at-risk populations.

Granted

Mattingly Charities was proud to be the title sponsor for the 2020 Granted Golf Scramble. In a pandemic year when so many nonprofits struggled, supporting outdoor events and fundraising efforts for Evansville-based organizations helping underserved youth became incredibly important.

Granted has been serving children of Southern Indiana, Western Kentucky, and Southeast Illinois with terminal or life-threatening conditions, and fulfilling their greatest Wishes since 1985. This assistance gives them and their family a desperately needed respite from the physical, emotional, and financial burdens created by a life-threatening illness. Wishes provide strength, hope, joy, and a wonderful experience that the family can enjoy together and then treasure among their memories.

Young & Established

In 2021 Mattingly Charities helped to fund the Trice Garden Spot, a community garden in the Glenwood neighborhood which promotes healthy eating and will train the youth of the community to grow organic vegetables and fruit.

In 2020 Mattingly Charities awarded a grant to Young & Established in support of their new community center, providing Evansville youth a safe space and giving them exposure to learning opportunities, programs, food pantry, events, mentoring, access to computers, washers and dryers to use for free.

Y&E strives to be a leading organization that actively promotes positive youth empowerment. It is the passionate desire of the Young & Established movement for youth and young adults to realize their self-worth and potential, establish and reach goals, become successful members of their communities, and to fulfill their dreams!

Young & Established Community Center

 THE JACOBSVILLE KID ZONE PROGRAM

The Dream Center was the recipient of a special grant at the end of 2019, where Mattingly Charities teamed up with the William E. Schmidt Foundation to provide matching grants and raised additional funds totaling over $85,000 to support and expand the Jacobsville Kid Zone program.

Jacobsville Kid Zone is the targeted initiative of the Dream Center which seeks to end generational poverty for kids in the Jacobsville neighborhood of Evansville, IN.  They meet this need by wrapping their kids in a tightly knit web of services, programs, and relationships.  This level of care is provided for any child that lives within their zone as they walk with them to and through college.

The Junior Achievement Program in Promise Zone Schools

Mattingly Charities has awarded the Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana with multiple grants to help bring their programs into McGary Middle School, Cedar Hall Community School, Glenwood Leadership Academy, Lincoln Community School, Cedar Hall Community School, and Bosse High School, all located in Evansville’s Promise Zone, impacting over 900 students.

Junior Achievement's vision is to equip the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, skills, and capacity to be 100% ready to be successful, thus providing opportunities to reach higher standards of living in their own communities and ultimately driving the economic development of our city, region, and nation.

Their volunteer-based, K-12 programs foster work and career readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills, using experiential learning to inspire young people to dream big and reach their potential.

 
 

The Pirouette Project

Mattingly Charities awarded the CCDE with a grant to help fund a new program at Fairlawn Elementary called the Pirouette Project, which is designed to "turn around" the lives of girls in at-risk schools. The after-school program successfully combines healthy snacks for 4th and 5th grade girls followed by dance instruction for fitness.

The mission of CCDE is Every Child Should Dance regardless of race, creed, financial background, or physical ability. They serve all children including those with special needs, those in high risk schools and neighborhoods, and those who are transitory.

 
 

SPIRIT OF SOUTHERN INDIANA

SPIRIT OF SOUTHERN INDIANA

The Spirit of Southern Indiana Organization

In 2019 Mattingly Charities awarded a grant to the Spirit of Southern Indiana organization in support of their program which provides children with disabilities the ability to experience cheer and dance in their community.

Spirit of Southern Indiana has two programs: Spirit Cheer (started in 2009) and Spirit Dance (started in 2017). These programs allow children between the ages of 7 and 18 with cognitive and physical limitations to be a part of a cheer team. Their teams’ focus is to give spirit back to the community through their performances in the Evansville area.

Youth First Social Worker at Evans Elementary School

Mattingly Charities awarded Youth First with a multi-year grant in 2019, supporting a full-time social worker in Evans Elementary School.

Youth First exists to “strengthen youth and families by providing evidence-based programs that prevent
substance abuse, promote healthy behaviors, and maximize student success.” Youth First Social
Workers provide free, on-site mentoring support and mental health expertise to students, teachers and
parents/caregivers in partnering schools. They offer nationally recognized prevention programs that
give kids the readiness, resiliency, and relationship skills needed to face life’s challenges.

Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program - Glenwood Leadership Academy

The Summer Learning Loss Prevention program is part of a National YMCA movement to positively impact the reading levels of children in YMCA communities.  Our Evansville YMCA is one of 96 YMCAs in the nation to host the program, and includes 2.5 hours of literacy and 4.5 hours of fun enrichment activities each day. Mattingly Charities grants supported this program for multiple years at Glenwood Leadership Academy.

 
 

STEM Lab/Enrichment Center

Mattingly Charities awarded the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana with a grant in January of 2019 to equip the new downtown facility STEM lab with equipment such as 3D printers, advanced microscopes, smart boards, and programming materials.

Southside Stars Youth Zone Program

Mattingly Charities awarded the Southside Stars Youth Zone with a multi-year grant, allowing them to expand their capacity, create new jobs, and serve more youth.

Southside Stars Youth Zone provides individualized, wrap-around support to youth in the Tepe Park neighborhood, the highest poverty neighborhood in Evansville. This program supports youth from the time they enter their pipeline of success, until they achieve their career goals, preparing them to be self-sustaining, confident, community minded adults, and break the cycle of poverty.

 
 

Mickey’s Kingdom

Mattingly Charities was one of 800 businesses, organizations and individuals to support the new 21,000 sq ft Mickey’s Kingdom children’s playground park, accessible to kids with all abilities, located in downtown Evansville.

The playground was built by a dedicated group of community volunteers and features park structures made from recycled milk jugs and the world’s largest CommuniTree.

Garvin Park North Youth Baseball League - Field Improvements

Garvin Park North Youth Baseball League used their grant funds from Mattingly Charities to make improvements to dilapidated areas of their home field.

North Youth Baseball’s mission is to foster in the children of the local neighborhood and community the ideals of teamwork, good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, and respect for authority, so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children.

This organization is run by dedicated parent volunteers. They serve children ages 3-14 and average about 300 baseball and softball players each season.

Delaware Elementary School - Minds In Motion Program

The Minds In Motion program uses a combination of creative movement, dance, and tactile activities to allow students to learn by carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations.

The Mattingly Charities grant allowed Delaware Elementary School to convert an unused locker room into a Minds In Motion lab for use by students and teachers.

 
 

RBI (Reviving Baseball in inner cities) Program

Since 2015, Mattingly Charities has supported the Evansville chapter of Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI), sponsored by Major League Baseball. This is a national outreach program designed to promote the game of baseball to teenage boys and girls in disadvantaged areas.

The program’s mission is to increase participation and interest in baseball and softball among under-served youth, encourage academic participation and achievement, increase number of talented athletes prepared to play in college and minor leagues, promote greater inclusion of minorities into the mainstream of the game, and teach the value of teamwork.

 
 

Glenwood Leadership Academy Programs

Mattingly Charities has awarded multiple grants to Glenwood Leadership Academy programs to fund items such as electronic devices for students with learning disabilities, as well as sensory and visual aides for students to develop the social communication and emotional self-regulation skills needed to reach their academic potential.

Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center - Sensory Garden

In 2018, the Easterseals Rehabillitation Center used a Mattingly Charities matching grant to develop a Sensory Garden in a previously unusable space at their inclusive Early Learning Center, to enhance learning and development for 200 children.

The Sensory Garden is fully accessible for all abilities and encourages physical activity while facilitating childrens’ achievement of developmental goals and school readiness skills.

Public Education Foundation - By George, It’s Science! Program

In 2018, the Public Education Foundation of Evansville was awarded a grant in support of the By George, It’s Science! program.

This program works to instill a love of science and nature in at-risk and minority youth. It features a collaborative effort between 5th graders and high school mentors in a program that spans the school year featuring hands-on scientific learning to students who have very little access to extracurricular activities.

Old National Bank - 100 Men Who Cook

Mattingly Charities has supported the Old National 100 Men Who Cook event for multiple years by having a board member participate as one of their celebrity chefs!

At this event, 100 of Evansville's most notable and praiseworthy men compete for the coveted title of "Top Chef" while raising money for a worthy Evansville-based organization such as the Children’s Museum of Evansville, the Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA and more!

Evansville Parks Department - Splash Into Summer Program

The Splash Into Summer project was created by the Evansville Parks Foundation in partnership with local corporate sponsors and community supporters.

This annual donation drive collects items such as swim trunks/bathing suits, beach towels, flip flops, and swim diapers for children to use at neighborhood pools.  The goal is to collect donated items that will be given to children and families to make swimming more affordable while encouraging attendance at city swimming pools and participation in local swimming competitions.

Highland Challenger League Baseball

In 2015 and 2016, Mattingly Charities awarded the Highland Challenger League with grants towards the installation of turf on the field to make baseball and softball accessible for those in wheelchairs and walkers, as well as towards a cooling shelter to provide respite and prevent players from overheating during hot summer months.

The Little League Challenger Division® was founded in 1989, and is Little League’s adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges.  There are currently more than 950 Challenger programs serving 30,000+ athletes around the world.

The Highland Challenger League Baseball serves the Evansville, IN region and surrounding counties in Kentucky and Illinois - at no cost to families.
