Mattingly Provides Support For Challenger League
Don Mattingly and wife Lori will make a check presentation to the Highland Challenger League on behalf of Mattingly Charities on Sunday.
Mattingly, the Miami Marlins manager, also will throw out the first pitch for the Challenger League's fall season at 1:15 p.m. Mattingly Charities previously has given $25,000 to the Challenger League to provide an artificial turf field. Another $25,000 donation, thanks to the William E. Schmidt Family Foundation, will help the league build a rest and cooling shelter at the field on W. Camp Ground Rd. in Evansville.
Mattingly credits his wife with bringing the league’s needs to his attention.
”When I heard the passion in my wife's voice when she was telling me about their Challenger program and their needs, I knew it was something we wanted to get involved in," said Mattingly. "It's an amazing program. We wanted to help."
Also, on Nov. 30, the Mattinglys will be hosting an Evansville fundraiser to support the Don Mattingly RBI League and other causes funded by Mattingly Charities. The second :"An Intimate Evening With Friends presented by United Companies" will feature Joe Torre and country music artists, The Warren Brothers. For more information go to www.MattinglyCharities.org.
